Limpsfield Parish Council – February Update

We had a very productive end of the year with many projects completed ahead of 2026. Alongside new wildflower planting, the refurbished and black painted railings at the Limpsfield traffic lights smarten the crossing, better reflect the village’s historic character and strengthen the visual link to Wolf’s Row (which is also in the Conservation Area).

We also finished the refurbishment of our Limpsfield Way history panels, with new improved weather-resistant backing boards, as well as installing a new bench to Limpsfield Village Green (Stanhopes), kindly co-funded by local residents.

National Nest Box Week- 14–21 February: This year we’d like to encourage everyone to pop up a nest box or two to help local birds, particularly swifts, whose numbers have declined sharply in recent years. Bird boxes, including swift boxes, are available from The Woodhouse Centre, the RSPB and Knights Garden Centre. Decorating or personalising boxes is a fun way to get involved – every bird deserves a unique home! Please continue feeding birds and providing fresh water, especially during freezing conditions.

Frog Fest 26: Frog spawning season is upon us, and it’s time to look out for the annual FrogFest at Yalden Spring on the Chart, usually towards the end of the month. Despite bumper spawn last year, the subsequent dry conditions mean that numbers of frogs are uncertain this year, so once this year’s froglets have moved on for the summer, a pond rejuvenation project will begin, including dredging and selective tree clearance to improve water retention and long-term wildlife conditions.

Winter Weather: “February brings the snow; Makes our feet and fingers glow...” While the weather is mild at the moment, we are not out of the woods in terms of ice or snow, so please be vigilant, help to keep pavements ice free using the grit boxes around the area, and if you find a grit box that is empty, please let us or Surrey CC know.

Potholes, obstructions and anything to do with pavements and roads should be reported on www.fixmystreet.com.

We have drafted our response to Tandridge District Council’s Local Plan Consultation and urge parishioners to get online and do the consultation survey. Find out all the info here: https://www.tandridge.gov.uk/Your-council/News-and-consultation/Consultations/Local-Plan-consultation

LPC meetings: Monday 9 February – Full Council; Tuesday 24 February – Planning Committee.

Finally, we would like to extend a welcome Judith Ressler as the National Trust’s new Lead Ranger for East Surrey, working alongside our new Limpsfield Common ranger, India Davies.
